WCBD commenced broadcasting on June 23rd, 1923 from Zion Illinois.
The station was owned and operated by Wilbur Glenn Volvia, the General Overseer of the Christian Catholic Apostolic Church of Zion, and initially broadcasted on a frequency of 870 kHz with a power of 500 watts.
