Reception Stamps

In 1924 the EKKO Company of Chicago chose the American Banknote Company to design and produce attractive high quality stamps which were imprinted with broadcast band radio station call signs. These stamps were sold to the relevant radio stations.

Official albums were also produced which included a space for each station’s stamp. For $1.75 the album included "Proof of Reception" cards on which listeners were invited to fill in some details about the reception.

Ten cents postage was required in order to cover mailing costs from the broadcaster where the card was checked against the station log for accuracy. The verification stamp with the station's call letters was then mailed to the listener.

The following EKKO stamps have been obtained as a match for the appropriate QSL card or letter available on this website (a few were affixed to the QSL).

The first two stamps on the left excluded the station call letters and the words "verified reception stamp" to allow radio stations to print their own call letters, for example, the KGIR stamp on the right.
