During the 1920s and 1930s Charles "Copper" Slingsby (one of Cape Town's pioneer dxers) wrote various radio articles which were published in two local newspapers. He advised on the purchase or construction of a shortwave receiver, how to tune in and what one could expect to hear.
"Wireless", especially shortwave, was in its infancy and the articles would have done much to promote an interest in tuning in.
The newspaper article (high resolution images below) is an interesting and informative reflection of Christmas radio broadcasts logged by "Copper" Slingsby while tuning in from 1925 to 1930 at the Cape Town suburbs of Mowbray and (subsequently) Claremont.
